Serbian in Serbia
Driving and Walking
In Serbia, one drives on the right side of the road. Most cars have stick shift. Due to the high incidence of theft, it is essential to have a good car alarm and to park either under the house window or in a garage. Always detach stereo systems, and remove cell phones and other valuables from the car at night.
Pedestrian crossings feature red and green walk lights. Red indicates “don’t walk,” while green means “walk.” Although drivers will stop for the light, pedestrians must pay close attention when crossing. Serbia has one of the higher motor vehicle-related mortality rates in Europe.
