Food Shopping
There are several food shopping options. There are large supermarkets in the bigger cities while grocery stores in small towns are frequently located in the garages of houses. Hours vary greatly ranging from 24-hour shops to those that are open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m..
Large supermarkets are common in the bigger cities while grocery stores can be found in the towns. At the grocery stores, one can purchase fresh fruits and vegetables, bread, bottled water, soda, detergents, and paper goods. Customers pay close attention when shopping in these small shops during the hot summer months of June through September.
The daily local market is best for fruits and vegetables since produce is locally grown, very fresh, and significantly less expensive. Local markets open at around 8:00 a.m. and remain open until dark. In all instances, produce is seasonal, and vendors are local.
Liquor stores are open 24 hours and stock water and soda as well as alcohol. There is no age limit for buying alcohol, and it is not uncommon for children to make purchases for the family. Many people drink bottled mineral water, although residents of smaller towns often drink water from the tap. Visitors may want to be conservative about tap water and stick to bottled water even in the towns. At the seashore, drinking tap water is prohibited.
