Spanish in Spain
Emergencies
Telephone numbers for police, ambulance and fire departments are posted in phone booths and listed in the front of the phone book. When in doubt, one can simply call an operator.
The hospitals in each city tend to be clean, modern and efficient. For less critical situations, each neighborhood has a clinic where one can be seen by a doctor after having made an appointment.
Although Spain is not an especially dangerous place, one needs to practice normal traveler’s common sense. This means being aware of the nature of each area one visits and in general, where to go or not to go. Since theft can be a problem, it is necessary to pay close attention to personal belongings, particularly when in a crowded situation like the market or city bus.
