LangMedia provides language learning resources for the Five College community and beyond. With an emphasis on less-commonly taught languages, LangMedia has a special mission to provide learners with examples of linguistic and cultural diversity worldwide.
The videos, audio samples, syllabi, study guides, and other materials are used by students enrolled in courses offered by the Five College Center for World Languages (FCCWL). The Center is jointly sponsored by the members of the Five College Consortium (Amherst College, Hampshire College, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College and the University of Massachusetts Amherst).
Outside funding has come from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the United States Department of Education through the International Research and Studies Grants program and the Fund for the Improvement of Post-Secondary Education (FIPSE), the National Security Education Program, the Booth-Ferris Foundation, the Charles E. Culpeper Foundation, and the University of Massachusetts Amherst Center for Teaching.
LangMedia materials are produced by the Center’s instructional and materials development staff members with assistance from student native speakers from Amherst College, Hampshire College, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College and the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
