  • Memorization of varying roles in dialogues of section II, pp. 25-27

Getting Started

  • Read and listen to the vocabulary in Gaye Chapter II, pp. 35-38.
  • Look over the dialogues on pp. 25-27 and identify new vocabulary.

Practice Exercises

  • Read, listen to, repeat and memorize the vocabulary in Gaye Chapter II, pp. 35-38.
  • Read and memorize the information in section I , pp. 18-21, that outlines leave taking, short forms in questions, negative and the special rural vocabulary.
  • Familiarize yourself with the Senegalese names listed on pp. 22-24.
  • Read and listen to both dialogues in section II, pp. 25-27. Memorize one or two of the parts in the dialogues.

    • Read this page and watch the six videos in French if you speak French or read the English transcripts if you do not read French.
    • Consider the question of language choice as you continue your study of Wolof.

Conversation Session Preparation

  • Be prepared to participate in role playing situations involving greetings and partings.
  • Be prepared to create questions and to respond to both positive and negative questions posed by others.
  • Be ready to take various roles in the 2 dialogues and act them out with classmates.
  • Be familiar enough with Senegalese names to use and recognize them.
